Abbeyfield People

You must have good general property maintenance knowledge and skills, and experience in providing maintenance services to other clients. You will be able to communicate and interact well with people, be able to read and write to a good standard, and computer literate.

You must have good knowledge of relevant health and safety and trade regulations, and have the ability to assess and manage risk. Importantly, you must have access to your own tools and supplies, and have the ability to work on your own initiative.

Your role at Abbeyfield

The purpose of this role is to provide a repairs, maintenance (and if necessary grounds keeping role) so that the House or Home is maintained to a good standard of repair, and the grounds are kept neat and tidy.

In this varied role you will be responsible for the property maintenance of one or more of our lovely Care Homes or Supported Housing services.

You'll need to ensure that all repairs are carried out effectively and quickly, and to a good standard, with adherence to health and safety requirements and relevant building and construction related regulations.

You will also be able to readily identify emerging maintenance issues, and report them to the Home or House Manager, thereby minimising impact, risk and damage.

The role may also include gardening, especially during the summer.  So you may also be responsible for keeping the grounds and gardens around the property neat and tidy.

Our home is small and friendly, perfect for people who want to maintain their independence, but have the support of our caring staff and companionship of others.  Our fantastic team work hard to ensure the house is comfortable, clean and safe for all our residents.

We organise plenty of engaging and enjoyable events and activities such as chair exercise sessions, 'Knit & Natter' sessions and a monthly library delivery service.  Food is very important at Alexander House, with our cooks preparing and serving a lunch and high tea daily. We are happy to cater for all kinds of different dietary requirements and vegetarian alternatives are always readily available.

An honest and open culture is encouraged by our home manager and her team, who are supported with regular team meetings and ongoing up-to-date training.  Our team is made up of committed, caring and professional people who are dedicated to ensuring that our residents are supported to do the things that they want to do, including the little things that matter.
