Kitchen Assistant

Job Introduction

The Kitchen Assistant will be responsible for preparing the dining room/kitchenettes for all meals and the related cleaning activities afterwards.

Some additional cleaning duties are required when shifts cover weekends ​or to cover the Housekeeper when absent.

Cover for other staff absences and deputising for the House Manager with food preparation, in an emergency, is also required.

Role Responsibility

Meal times are really important to our residents, and your role is crucial to making them as enjoyable as possible.  If you’re passionate about high standards of cleanliness and love to serve good food, then we’d like to hear from you.  

Re-stock kitchenettes with fresh produce

Stock trolley ready for tea/coffee service and serve mid-morning

Prepare dining room for lunch and dinner

Assist in meal service

Clear table and clean dining area after lunch and dinner

Manage cleaning and putting away of crockery and cutlery after meal service

Oven cleaning

Clean the lounge as per cleaning schedule

Re-stocking kitchenettes with long-life produce

Be willing to provide cover for housekeeper and other kitchen assistants to cover illness/annual leave

Take over food preparation from House Manager in case of emergency

To hold certificates in, or be willing to undertake training in:

Food Safety Level II

First Aid

COSHH

Fire Awareness

The Ideal Candidate

Are you a naturally caring person?  Do you make friends easily and interact with a wide range of people in varied situations?  And can you also read, write and work with numbers to a good standard?

Are you also a strong and supportive team player, and willing to learn more about food hygiene and preparation?  If so, we will provide you with all the training and support you need.

Better still, if you are already QCF qualified to Level 2 in Food Hygiene, this is definitely the job for you.

3-day shift followed by 6 days off 9.30am to 1.30pm and 5pm to 7pm

About the Company

Located in the picturesque and friendly village of Chalfont St Peter, often described as the Gateway to the Chiltern Hills, an area of natural beauty; famous for stunning countryside, chalk streams and breathtaking woodlands, Austenmead offers supported housing for residents wishing to remain independent but have support 24 hours a day with live-in House Managers and an alarm system.

Situated in extensive, beautifully landscaped gardens, Austenmead is a beautiful and charming detached house built in 1900. It was converted into a supported house in 1971 and in 1994, was extensively refurbished; a programme of minor refurbishment is ongoing.

We have 11 generously sized rooms, all with en-suite facilities. Four of our rooms are suites, which have a separate lounge and bedroom and would accommodate couples or siblings who wish to live together. We are able to provide furniture for trial stays or respite and can provide help, where possible, for residents who would like furniture for a long-term basis. 

Ideally located on the corner of Austenwood Common, we’re a short drive, taxi journey or bus ride away from Chalfont St Peter and Gerrards Cross.
