Abbeyfield People

Are you a naturally caring person, who is compassionate, and understands the needs of older people?  Can you interact well with and build strong working relationships a wide range of people in varied situations?  And in a modern workplace, as you would expect, you should be able to use computers and IT applications, and be able to read, write and work with numbers to a good standard.

A strong and supportive team player, you’ll also need to be a competent cook, who can keep to a budget.  You’ll also be skilled in supervising and supporting your team of General Assistants, and will know how to get the best from them.

If you are already experienced in working in a similar role within services for older people, and have knowledge of tenancy management and tenant participation, then even better.  It would also be beneficial if you held a current driving licence.  You will also need to have a First Aid Certificate and Food Hygiene Certificate.  However, if you do not possess these, full training will be provided to ensure you obtain these within the first few months.

We are committed to providing the highest standards of care, and we believe that great care starts with great people. Are you a caring, compassionate and welcoming person, who understands the needs of older people and is respectful at all times? Are you comfortable communicating and collaborating with a wide range of people in varied situations as well as a strong and confident team player?

And because we take the wellbeing of our residents and staff very seriously, you won't be surprised that to work for us, you must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (other than in exceptional circumstances), and intend to have any further booster vaccinations that are made available.

About Abbeyfield

For over 60 years, Abbeyfield has been a charity that provides housing for elderly people across the UK and internationally. It is our mission to enhance the quality of life for our residents through excellent accommodation in a stimulating environment to help maintain a socially active life.

Abbeyfield is more than a home; it’s a neighbourhood, a community, a family. Our core behaviours are to be welcoming to everyone, celebrate the positives, work collaboratively, take responsibility, and be adaptable to changing circumstances.

Best of all, we’re a charity, meaning that the interests of our valued staff and residents sit at the heart of what we do, not shareholders.

Your role at Abbeyfield

This is a really interesting and varied role, providing a number of important services to our valued residents.  For instance, you will provide the catering service, to include ordering and preparation of ingredients, cooking and meal preparation. But you'll also supervise a small team of General Assistants, and through them, you will ensure that the House is maintained in a clean and tidy condition, and is safe for our residents.

You will also undertake administrative duties, such as record keeping, maintaining tenancy agreements and keeping an eye on expenditure.  And you’ll go out of your way to ensure that all residents feel welcome, included and involved in the house(s), and matters affecting the house are communicated to them as required.

You may also organise social activities, consulting with residents and volunteer groups, so that all residents remain involved in the community in line with their individual needs, aspirations and abilities.

Finally, you’ll also take responsibility for ensuring all staff, volunteers, trades persons and other visitors are managed effectively when on site.

A Great Place to Work

Renovated in 2017 to provide a contemporary living environment for residents, Ruby Moores House offers supported living in the heart of Formby, near Liverpool.  The centre of Formby village is within walking distance from the home, with plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants nearby. We are close by to two train stations and we have a bus stop conveniently located just outside the front of the property.

We have a welcoming communal area which is the heart of the house overlooking our beautiful, large garden which is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the fresh air. Along with regular coffee mornings, bingo evenings and our Knit and Natter group, our experienced team organise outings in the local area to garden centres and other local attractions as well as our annual garden party.

At Ruby Moores House, the residents all truly care for one another and look after each other, making it one large family home. We are proud to lead such a happy, encouraging staff team where everyone’s ultimate goal is to work together to make a real difference and enhance the lives of our residents.

If you’re after a rewarding role with lots of variety and feel that you can make a positive contribution to our team, we would be interested in hearing from you.
