Abbeyfield is a charity for elderly people, providing housing to more than 7,000 residents across the UK and internationally. It is our mission to enhance our residents’ quality of life through high quality accommodation in a stimulating environment, maintaining a socially active life.
We’re committed to providing the highest standards of care to our residents, and we believe that great care starts with great people. The interests of our valued staff and residents sit at the heart of what we do.
Abbeyfield is more than a home; it’s a neighbourhood, a community, a family. Are you ready to be a part of it?
Aiming to maximise and improve the quality of life of every resident, you will make certain that everyone feels settled, supported and involved in all our activities.
As House Manager you will provide day to day management of the house including daily morning checks on each resident, managing a team of staff and ensuring they are providing a quality service, managing materials and stock for the efficient running of the house.
You’ll have responsibility for the elderly residents of Mansil House and managing the provision of tenancy agreements, ensuring a positive accommodation experience in a safe living environment. And you’ll be developing and implementing local marketing activities to promote your House to secure a high reputation in the community, developing relationships with referral agencies and key local partners.
You will need to maximise rental income, by ensuring high occupancy levels, and any resident debt is minimised. Equally, you will need to control staff costs by effective management of staff budgets, rotas and timesheets. Additionally, you’ll need to have an eye on other property related costs, such as utilities and consumables, in line with budget.
Finally, you'll play a key part in ensuring that the Houses comply fully with all relevant regulations, internal Abbeyfield policies and processes, and that there is an effective internal audit programme to assure compliance.
The Ideal Candidate
You must be able to manage customer expectations, by balancing the needs of residents with business need, you will have a good understanding of national health and social care strategies for older people.
You’ll also have had experience managing budgets, particularly securing sustainable income and controlling costs. And given the team you’ll be managing across multiple sites, strong staff management skills are key. In short, you’ll know how to get the best from people.
Finally, as you’d expect in a modern working environment, you will need to be computer literate, and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
In return for your commitment, we offer a great pay and benefits package. This includes:
● 31 days paid leave, including bank/public holidays (pro rata)
● Occupational sick pay scheme
● Company pension scheme
● Shop and save discounts
About the Company
Mansil House supported accommodation was built in 1977 and consists of 13 flats. Most rooms are en suite and all rooms are unfurnished so you can bring your own furniture, giving it a real home from home ambience.
We also have a very comfortable lounge so there is always somewhere to sit in company and have a chat, and a pretty well-maintained garden so you can sit out and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.
We have a visiting mobile hairdresser and chiropodist. A lift and two assisted bathrooms mean that the house is suitable for the less mobile.
There is a fabulous team of volunteers who help out with lifts into town and organising outings, or are just around for someone to have a cup of tea and a chat with
