Abbeyfield People

You’ll have a relevant Certificate in Food Hygiene, and a track record of demonstrable experience of cooking varied, healthy and safe meals to large groups on a regular basis.   Able to lead and support the kitchen staff team, you'll also train and develop the to get the best out of each individual.  You’ll also be able to manage resources, planning rotas in advance to ensure continuity of the catering service.

You’ll also be methodical and highly organised; your kitchen and equipment will be kept clean and tidy, with an effective method of stock rotation.

Your role at Abbeyfield

Your mission is to manage the provision of a healthy, nutritious, varied and reliable meals service to our elderly residents.  This involves ensuring every resident is provided with and enjoys a balanced, healthy, varied and nutritious diet, prepared according to their tastes, and presented to a high standard.

You’ll also obtain feedback on meal preferences, and seek to constantly improve levels of satisfaction.  Ensuring compliance with relevant food hygiene and health and safety requirements is key.  You’ll also manage purchasing and stock levels within the budget allocated.

You'll develop, in consultation with residents, healthy balanced menus, with choices which reflect their needs and preferences.  You’ll plan, prepare and cook residents’ meals from the agreed menu, taking into account personal preferences or recognised dietary requirements.  All residents are to be offered at least three meals per day.  And by regularly seeking feedback, you’ll monitor their satisfaction with the menu and quality of the food provided. 

You’ll also ensure a safe and sufficient supply of catering products, by developing a system of ordering supplies in a timely manner.  And to ensure good stock control, you’ll make sure catering orders and deliveries are recorded using documentation supplied, to enable all orders to be checked and audited.   Maintenance of a system of effective stock rotation and control is paramount, and by doing so, you will manage catering costs within the agreed catering budget.

You will also oversee safe and proper use of catering equipment, and report any defects to management.  You’ll champion kitchen cleaning procedures and schedules and ensure your kitchen and store areas are clean and hygienic at all times.  You will also oversee the completion of all relevant records in relation to food safety.

Situated in the rural village of Gosforth in the Lake District, Bradbury House is a modern, purpose built care home consisting of 21 private rooms with ensuite shower facilities.  Our home is near to all local amenities of village life and has strong connections with the local community including the next door local nursery and primary school.

Facilities at our home include a large dining room, with a communal lounge and small sitting room where our residents can spend time with their loved ones and friends overlooking beautiful, landscaped south-facing gardens. 

An extensive range of activities and entertainment such as exercise classes, pub outings and games afternoons are delivered by our well-managed and experienced team in a supported, yet sensitive manner. Good relationships exist between our kind and caring team and our residents which result in a warm, friendly and companionable environment at our home.
