General Assistant

Job Introduction

Abbeyfield is a charity for elderly people, providing housing to more than 7,000 residents across the UK and internationally. It is our mission to enhance our residents’ quality of life through high quality accommodation in a stimulating environment, maintaining a socially active life.

We’re committed to providing the highest standards of care to our residents, and we believe that great care starts with great people. The interests of our valued staff and residents sit at the heart of what we do.

We want to keep our Homes as welcoming as possible.  Every resident should enjoy a clean and well maintained environment that is presented to the highest standard.  Your role is key to this.

Assisting with helping to provide a healthy, nutritious, varied and reliable meals service to our elderly residents.  This involves ensuring every resident is provided with and enjoys a balanced, healthy, varied and nutritious diet, prepared according to their tastes, and presented to a high standard

Role Responsibility

A one of our valued general assistants, you’re at the front line of delivery.  We’re passionate about creating a neat and tidy environment for our residents.  So you’ll help us keep our Houses clean, tidy for our residents, and welcoming for our many visitors.  This includes communal areas and may include residents’ flats and bedrooms.

With your attention to detail and high standards, you just know exactly how to make the residents feel as comfortable as possible and put a smile on their faces. Above all, you’ll treat residents with kindness, respect and compassion.

We would like you help assist/cover the housekeeper (during sickness & holidays) in planning, preparing and cooking residents’ meals, so we would require that you are able to prepare and cook varied, healthy and safe meals to large groups regularly.

Ensure every resident is provided with and enjoys a balanced, healthy, varied and nutritious diet that is prepared according to their tastes, and presented to a high standard.

The Ideal Candidate

First and foremost, you will be a caring person who is compassionate, and understands the needs of older people.  Additionally, you will be able to communicate and interact well with a wide range of people in varied situations.  Naturally, as you might expect in a modern workplace, you must be able to read, write and work with numbers to a good standard.  And it is essential that you are a strong and supportive team player.

To be highly suited to the role, you should be passionate about standards of cleanliness and hygiene, and will be keen to ensure that things are always neat and tidy.  Better still, if you’re already experienced working in a similar role, may be within services for older people, then this is definitely the job for you.
