First and foremost, you will be a caring person who is compassionate, and understands the needs of older people. Additionally, you will be able to communicate and interact well with a wide range of people in varied situations. Naturally, as you might expect in a modern workplace, you must be able to read, write and work with numbers to a good standard. And it is essential that you are a strong and supportive team player.
To be highly suited to the role, you should be passionate about standards of cleanliness and hygiene, and will be keen to ensure that things are always neat and tidy. Better still, if you’re already experienced working in a similar role, may be within services for older people, then this is definitely the job for you.
We are committed to providing the highest standards of care, and we believe that great care starts with great people. Are you a caring, compassionate and welcoming person, who understands the needs of older people and is respectful at all times? Are you comfortable communicating and collaborating with a wide range of people in varied situations as well as a strong and confident team player?
And because we take the wellbeing of our residents and staff very seriously, you won't be surprised that to work for us, you must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (other than in exceptional circumstances), and intend to have any further booster vaccinations that are made available.
For over 60 years, Abbeyfield has been a charity that provides housing for elderly people across the UK and internationally. It is our mission to enhance the quality of life for our residents through excellent accommodation in a stimulating environment to help maintain a socially active life.
Abbeyfield is more than a home; it’s a neighbourhood, a community, a family. Our core behaviours are to be welcoming to everyone, celebrate the positives, work collaboratively, take responsibility, and be adaptable to changing circumstances.
Best of all, we’re a charity, meaning that the interests of our valued staff and residents sit at the heart of what we do, not shareholders.
Your role at Abbeyfield
A one of our valued general assistants, you’re at the front line of delivery. We’re passionate about creating a neat and tidy environment for our residents. So you’ll help us keep our Houses clean, tidy for our residents, and welcoming for our many visitors. This includes communal areas and may include residents’ flats and bedrooms.
With your attention to detail and high standards, you just know exactly how to make the residents feel as comfortable as possible and put a smile on their faces. Above all, you’ll treat residents with kindness, respect and compassion.
A Great Place to Work
Located by the canal and surrounded by stunning views, Abbeyfield House in Garstang was built in 1993 and opened by the Duke of Westminster. Garstang is a beautiful old market town and is known for its popular annual Scarecrow Festival which our residents love to participate in.
The house has 11 ensuite rooms and one flat. We have a large communal lounge and dining area which are both homely and great places to enjoy some home cooked food and spend time together enjoying board games or just having a chat. We have bright well kept gardens surrounding the house for our residents to sit and enjoy the views.
Our wide range of activities such as our regular armchair exercises are delivered by our passionate and engaging team, which have a positive impact on our residents’ lives. Every member of our warm-hearted team plays a vital role in continuously supporting our residents to enhance their well-being. We are proud to invest in our team throughout their time with us with up to date training programmes and regular, informative meetings.
If you have a sunny personality and are enthusiastic and dedicated to the needs of older people, we would love to hear from you.
