First and foremost, you will be a caring person who is compassionate, and understands the needs of older people. Additionally, you will be able to communicate and interact well with a wide range of people in varied situations. Naturally, as you might expect in a modern workplace, you must be able to read, write and work with numbers to a good standard. And it is essential that you are a strong and supportive team player.
To be highly suited to the role, you should be passionate about standards of cleanliness and hygiene, and will be keen to ensure that things are always neat and tidy. Better still, if you’re already experienced working in a similar role, may be within services for older people, then this is definitely the job for you.
We are committed to providing the highest standards of care, and we believe that great care starts with great people. Are you a caring, compassionate and welcoming person, who understands the needs of older people and is respectful at all times? Are you comfortable communicating and collaborating with a wide range of people in varied situations as well as a strong and confident team player?
And because we take the wellbeing of our residents and staff very seriously, you won't be surprised that to work for us, you must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (other than in exceptional circumstances), and intend to have any further booster vaccinations that are made available.
For over 60 years, Abbeyfield has been a charity that provides housing for elderly people across the UK and internationally. It is our mission to enhance the quality of life for our residents through excellent accommodation in a stimulating environment to help maintain a socially active life.
Abbeyfield is more than a home; it’s a neighbourhood, a community, a family. Our core behaviours are to be welcoming to everyone, celebrate the positives, work collaboratively, take responsibility, and be adaptable to changing circumstances.
Best of all, we’re a charity, meaning that the interests of our valued staff and residents sit at the heart of what we do, not shareholders.
Your role at Abbeyfield
A one of our valued general assistants, you’re at the front line of delivery. We’re passionate about creating a neat and tidy environment for our residents. So you’ll help us keep our Houses clean, tidy for our residents, and welcoming for our many visitors. This includes communal areas and may include residents’ flats and bedrooms.
With your attention to detail and high standards, you just know exactly how to make the residents feel as comfortable as possible and put a smile on their faces. Above all, you’ll treat residents with kindness, respect and compassion.
A Great Place to Work
Set in the ancient market town of Cockermouth, Abbeyfield House was built in 1980 and is close to local amenities as it is within walking distance of the town centre where you will shops, cafes, churches, banks and places to eat. Our home is ideally located close to the Lake District. Execellent transport connections to Keswick and Windermere provide the ingredients for a perfect day out.
Abbeyfield House consists of 10 ensuite rooms and two flats and is a very friendly and welcoming house. Every day there is also something different happening with our dedicated team working hard to offer a range of enjoyable activities for our residents and make time to organise events – including forthnightly visits from Dylan, the friendly Labrador dog!
We also arrange a local beautician and hairdresser to offer treatments to our residents which is eagerly looked forward to by our wonderful residents.
This is a truly family-orientated house and we always make everyone feel right at home including new members of staff. Every member of the team is highly valued and receives ongoing training to keep up to date with good practice. Through daily interaction we get to know our residents well and always ensure that everyone, staff included, are treated with kindness and respect. If you feel that you share the same values as us, we would love to hear from you.
