General Assistant - Bank
Abbeyfield is a charity for elderly people, providing housing to more than 7,000 residents across the UK and internationally. It is our mission to enhance our residents’ quality of life through high quality accommodation in a stimulating environment, maintaining a socially active life.
We’re committed to providing the highest standards of care to our residents, and we believe that great care starts with great people. The interests of our valued staff and residents sit at the heart of what we do.
Abbeyfield is more than a home; it’s a neighbourhood, a community, a family. Are you ready to be a part of it?
A one of our valued general assistants, you’re at the front line of delivery. We’re passionate about creating a neat and tidy environment for our residents. So you’ll help us keep our Houses clean, tidy for our residents, and welcoming for our many visitors. This includes communal areas and may include residents’ flats and bedrooms. In addition to this role you may be required to carry out some cooking for the residents.
With your attention to detail and high standards, you just know exactly how to make the residents feel as comfortable as possible and put a smile on their faces. Above all, you’ll treat residents with kindness, respect and compassion.
The Ideal Candidate
First and foremost, you will be a caring person who is compassionate, and understands the needs of older people. Additionally, you will be able to communicate and interact well with a wide range of people in varied situations. Naturally, as you might expect in a modern workplace, you must be able to read, write and work with numbers to a good standard. And it is essential that you are a strong and supportive team player.
To be highly suited to the role, you should be passionate about standards of cleanliness and hygiene, and will be keen to ensure that things are always neat and tidy. Better still, if you’re already experienced working in a similar role, may be within services for older people, then this is definitely the job for you.
At Abbeyfield, we believe that great care starts with great people. We’re committed to providing the highest standards of accommodation to our residents and we’re always keen to hear from people who share our commitment to enhancing the lives of older people in the UK.
From carers to house managers, activities coordinators to cooks, plus roles in our St Albans head office, Abbeyfield has a varied range of career options available. By working at Abbeyfield you’ll be joining a charity with more than 400 houses and over 7000 residents. But we’re also developing new homes throughout the UK with state of the art facilities.
Best of all, we’re a charity, meaning that the interests of our valued staff and residents sit at the heart of what we do, not shareholders.
In line with your casual (bank) worker assignment agreement, we offer competitive pay that is in line with those of our employed staff in similar roles. And depending on how many hours you work, you will accrue leave at an equivalent rate of 29 days paid leave in a full calendar year, inclusive of bank/public holidays.
About the Company
Located in the market town of Amersham, Mansil House is our supported accommodation for older people built in 1977.
Our home consists of 13 rooms, all have ensuites and kitchenettes. We have a very comfortable lounge so there is always somewhere for our residents to sit with their families and friends and a pretty well-maintained garden for them to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. Other facilities include a visiting mobile hairdresser and chiropodist and for the less mobile, we offer a lift and two assisted bathrooms.
Our wide range of activities, such as coffee mornings and craft sessions, are led by our passionate and engaging team who have a positive impact on our residents’ lives. There is also a fabulous team of volunteers who help out too offering lifts into town and organising outings for our residents.
Every member of our warm-hearted team plays a vital role in continuously supporting our residents to improve their quality of care and wellbeing. We are proud to invest in our team throughout their career with learning programmes and continual professional development opportunities.
