This pivotal role is to ensure the smooth running of the House with the Residents wellbeing at the forefront of all daily activities.

We are looking for someone with enthusiasm, who will grow to feel as passionately about Buckmaster and its history and most importantly care about each of our residents as the current established staff team do. All of which makes for a wonderful experience and a great place to live for our residents.

  • Competitive pay
  • 31 days paid leave, including bank/public holidays pro rata

The Role

This role is to lead and manage a supported housing retirement home for our residents, contributing to the delivery of high quality independent/supported living, to ensure residents are treated with respect and dignity, and lead fulfilling lives.

You’ll have responsibility for the resident’s general wellbeing as well as their home ensuring a positive experience in a safe living environment and managing the provision of tenancy agreements.  You’ll be developing and implementing local marketing activities to promote your House to maintain the high reputation in the local community

You will need to maximise rental income, by ensuring high occupancy levels, and any resident debt is minimised.  Equally, you will need to control staff costs by effective management of staff budgets, rotas and timesheets.  Additionally, you’ll need to have an eye on other property related costs, such as utilities and consumables, in line with budget.

You will be effectively managing staff to maintain our high standards of provision.  In this location you will have an administrator, maintenance operative, cooks and generals assistants reporting to you. You’ll need to ensure that there are sufficient staff in the right places at the right time to ensure service provision and be willing to ‘step in’ and help where needed. In short you will cover for the House Manager during their absence to ensure the smooth running of the Home.

Finally, you'll play a key part in ensuring that the House complies fully with all relevant regulations, internal Abbeyfield policies and processes, and that there is an effective internal audit programme to ensure compliance.

About You

Naturally you’ll need to have some experience working in Supported Housing, health or social care environment at a supervisory level in a similar (ideally elderly care) person centred support role.

And ideally, (but not essential) an appropriate qualification in sheltered housing and or social care would be an advantage, together with an understanding of relevant Housing legislation, assured shorthold tenancy management and landlord and tenant obligations.

You must be able to manage customer expectations, by balancing the needs of residents alongside running the House as a business.

You’ll also have had some experience of managing budgets, particularly securing sustainable income by maximising occupancy and controlling costs and given the team you’ll be managing, strong staff management skills are key, with the ability to undertake effective recruitment, manage staff performance, apply formal disciplinary processes, and develop and retain talent. In short, you’ll know how to get the best from our people.
