Are you sensitive, empathetic and love to care for others? Do you enjoy building meaningful relationships and making a real difference? If that sounds like you, we think you’ll fit right in at Abbeyfield! Whether you’re new to the world of care or looking to retrain, we’re looking for people to join our growing team of care assistants.
Don’t worry if you have no experience - we’ll provide you with all the training you need. What’s more important is that you have a natural calling to care!
We are committed to providing the highest standards of care, and we believe that great care starts with great people. Are you a caring, compassionate and welcoming person, who understands the needs of older people and is respectful at all times? Are you comfortable communicating and collaborating with a wide range of people in varied situations as well as a strong and confident team player?
And because we take the wellbeing of our residents and staff very seriously, you won't be surprised that to work for us, you must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (other than in exceptional circumstances), and intend to have any further booster vaccinations that are made available.
For over 60 years, Abbeyfield has been a charity that provides housing for elderly people across the UK and internationally. It is our mission to enhance the quality of life for our residents through excellent accommodation in a stimulating environment to help maintain a socially active life.
Abbeyfield is more than a home; it’s a neighbourhood, a community, a family. Our core behaviours are to be welcoming to everyone, celebrate the positives, work collaboratively, take responsibility, and be adaptable to changing circumstances.
Best of all, we’re a charity, meaning that the interests of our valued staff and residents sit at the heart of what we do, not shareholders.
Your role at Abbeyfield
As one of our highly valued carers, you'll be at the front line of care delivery. You’ll help residents with their individual care needs such as personal care, medical care and following social interests. You’ll build a special bond with each resident and give professional and emotional support during difficult times such as periods of illness.
You just know exactly how to make the residents feel as comfortable as possible and put a smile on their faces. Above all, you’ll treat residents with kindness, respect and compassion, ensuring each individual has a choice and feeling of self worth.
A Great Place to Work
Downing House is situated on the edge of Withington Village, near Withington Library, with great transport links (busses and Metrolink). Our residential care home offers a comfortable and homely setting, providing high quality care for up to 25 residents. Our bright and spacious lounge, cinema room, dining area, and lovely garden are welcoming for our residents to chat with staff members, family or friends. We encourage our residents to take part in planned weekly activities, from in-house entertainment to social outings. We extend a warm welcome to our many visitors who visit our home to spend time with our residents.
Our experienced team ensure that all residents’ needs are constantly being met. Our aim is to make sure that everyone in our care is happy and comfortable and retains as much dignity and independence as possible. You will be joining a well-trained and close knit team that is always committed to making a difference in people’s lives.
We encourage an open and friendly culture amongst our staff, who are well supported by the home manager. Every member of the team is highly valued and receives ongoing training to keep up to date with good practice. Through daily interaction we get to know our residents well and always ensure that everyone, staff included, are treated with kindness and respect. If you feel that you share the same values as us, we would love to hear from you.
